“Trompe l’oeil” (pronounced “trump loy”- french meaning to trick the eye) techniques – perspective, light and shadow, faux materials – are the essential and magical ingredients of successful decorative art and murals. Taking a piece of furniture, an object or a blank wall and painting a window, a landscape, a niche, a marble… whatever the case may be, literally transforms that wall and the space around it into a new world. A plain entrance can become an Egyptian temple, a moonlit seascape complete with star studded sky, a grand Italian marble hallway leading to a terrace overlooking manicured gardens, a hot air balloon over the land of Oz… there literally is no limit but that of our imagination.
